Tips for Enjoying Málaga Fair 2026 Before Your First Visit

If you're visiting the Málaga Fair for the first time this summer, there's one thing you should know: this is no ordinary fair. It is one of Spain's biggest celebrations and, every August, it attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors across its two main venues: Málaga's Historic Centre and the Cortijo de Torres Fairground. However, because of its size, there are a few small details that can make the difference between enjoying an unforgettable experience... or ending up exhausted before the day is over.

At GR Estates, we welcome many travellers every summer who stay in our holiday apartments in Fuengirola, and they always ask us the same questions. That's why we've prepared this practical guide with useful tips to help you enjoy the Málaga Fair like a true local.

Málaga Fair 2026

1. Málaga Fair Is Actually Two Completely Different Fairs

This is one of the most common mistakes made by first-time visitors. The Fair is divided into two very different experiences:

The Day Fair

It takes place in Málaga's Historic Centre. The streets come alive with music, flamenco groups, bustling terraces, a festive atmosphere and thousands of people enjoying themselves from midday onwards in the heart of the city. It is the perfect place to stroll around, enjoy a drink and experience the most traditional side of Málaga Fair. If you've visited Málaga at another time of year, you'll be amazed by the transformation in August. Famous streets such as Larios, Constitución and Granada are filled with music, decorations and live performances throughout the day. It is a completely different way to discover the city.

The Night Fair

Once the sun goes down, the celebration moves to the Cortijo de Torres Fairground, a large venue packed with marquees, fairground rides, concerts and live entertainment that continues until the early hours of the morning. Many visitors choose to experience both the Day Fair and the Night Fair on the same day, but it's worth planning ahead to make the most of both.

Many people imagine that all the marquees are simply nightclubs, but that couldn't be further from the truth. At the fairground you'll find marquees offering all kinds of different atmospheres:

  • Traditional marquees.
  • Family-friendly marquees.
  • Marquees with live music.
  • Youth-oriented marquees.
  • Food and gastronomy marquees.

2. Don't Try to See Everything in One Day

The Fair lasts around a week for a reason. Trying to explore the city centre, visit every marquee, enjoy the fairground rides and finish the evening with a concert will probably leave you completely exhausted. Our advice is simple: enjoy the Fair at a relaxed pace, as every day has its own unique atmosphere and it's worth discovering it little by little. For those with plenty of energy, we recommend visiting the Day Fair around 12:30 or 1:30 pm to soak up the atmosphere, enjoy a refreshing drink and lunch, then later catch one of the buses that take you directly to the fairground to continue enjoying Málaga Fair at Cortijo de Torres.

3. Cartojal

Ask any local from Málaga about the most traditional drink at the Fair, and they'll almost certainly answer Cartojal. This sweet wine, served ice cold, is an essential part of the Fair tradition and is usually one of the first things visitors try. Our advice is simple: enjoy it in moderation, especially during the hottest hours of the day.

4. Your Footwear Is More Important Than You Think

It may seem like a minor detail, but you'll probably walk several kilometres throughout the day. Between the Historic Centre, the fairground and travelling between both venues, it's easy to exceed 15,000 or even 20,000 steps. You'll notice that most locals wear trainers, Skechers or very comfortable sandals that allow them to enjoy the Fair for as long as possible. So remember, comfortable footwear will make a huge difference.

5. August in Málaga Means Very Hot Weather

Temperatures during Málaga Fair often rise well above 30°C, especially in the middle of the day. That's why we strongly recommend that you:

  • Drink water regularly.
  • Look for shaded areas whenever possible.
  • Wear a cap or sun hat.
  • Apply sunscreen.
  • Bring a hand fan and sunglasses.

If you're travelling with children, these tips become even more important.

6. Visit During the Week If Possible

Although weekends are usually the busiest time, many locals prefer to visit during the week. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday offer a much more relaxed Fair, with fewer queues, less crowded streets and a calmer atmosphere, particularly at the Night Fair in the Cortijo de Torres Fairground.

7. If You're Staying in Fuengirola, the Train or Bus Will Be Your Best Friend

Many of our guests choose to stay in Fuengirola because it offers the perfect combination of beaches, relaxation and excellent transport links to Málaga. The Cercanías commuter train or the direct bus to Málaga city centre allows you to travel comfortably without the hassle of finding parking or driving during the busiest days of the Fair. It's one of the most practical ways to enjoy the celebrations before returning peacefully to your accommodation for a good night's rest.

8. The Gastronomy Is Also Part of the Experience

As well as the festive atmosphere, the Fair is the perfect opportunity to discover traditional Málaga cuisine. When you visit, don't miss dishes such as:

  • Grilled sardine skewers (espetos)
  • Traditional Málaga-style fried fish
  • Iberian cured ham
  • Andalusian cheeses
  • Shrimp fritters
  • Gazpacho or salmorejo
  • Artisan ice cream to cool down in the summer heat

Also, if the Fair coincides with your stay on the Costa del Sol, bear in mind that many restaurants in Málaga's Historic Centre become fully booked very quickly during the Fair. If you're planning to have lunch or dinner at one of the city's best-known restaurants, it's highly advisable to book well in advance.

9. If You're Travelling with Children, the Fair Is for You Too

Although many people associate the Fair with nightlife, it also offers plenty of family-friendly activities. The fairground rides, children's entertainment and festive atmosphere make Málaga Fair a fantastic experience for families.

That said, we recommend avoiding the hottest hours of the day if you're visiting with children, and waiting until late afternoon or early evening before heading to the fairground and enjoying the famous rides.

10. Where Should You Stay to Visit Málaga Fair?

Many visitors choose to stay in Málaga city centre, but more and more people now prefer accommodation in quieter areas that are still well connected to the Fair, such as Fuengirola. Why? Because it allows them to combine the excitement of the Fair with a genuine Costa del Sol holiday. During the day they can relax on the beach, stroll around the marina, enjoy lunch at one of the beachfront chiringuitos or discover charming places such as Los Boliches and Sohail Castle, before travelling comfortably to Málaga to experience the Fair.

It's the perfect way to enjoy the very best of both destinations.
